We are trying to decide between TidyCat scoopable and ScoopAway. Does anyone have a preference? Are they both pretty much the same texture?-- Jennifer
Personally I did not like tidy cat. We used to get it as donations at the shelter I worked it. I found that it smelled like kitty pee. That was back in 1999 so they may have changed it by now. I just bought scoop away. They use some sort of perfume in it. I am not sure I like it. But I am really sensitive to smells. (allergic to any flower scent). I personally like litter pearls. My cats don't seem to mind them. Crash will use them all the time. Tucker will use them half the time and the cheap kitty litter my mom buys half the time. I am actually going to see if the cheap stuff comes in clumping style (i think it's called special kitty).
BTW I wouldn't buy a covered box until your kitty gets used to using a plan old litter pan. I bought a small open one at walmart for 2 dollars.
Good luck.
I mix ScoopAway and Tidy cat and sometimes mix in an expensive one called Everfresh from Petsmart because it seems to help on odor. There have been earlier comments somewhere around here that it is best NOT to use a clumping litter for kittens because they are so bad about eating everything while they're exploring. You might just get the plain, non-clumping kind until she's grown enough to not check everything out with her mouth! Although the clumping is handy, it's better to be safe than sorry and you wouldn't want her to ingest the clumping. Great that your neighbor has deaf cats but surely she's not breeding them!! Still hope you take a second one; maybe there's one that hears. Katc

That's why I use the unscented scoopable litters. I used to swear by Scoopaway until the unscented was increasingly harder to find. Just think about how sensitive a cats nose is...if we only smell a little perfume scent in the litter, they smell it 50 times stronger. I have found not that much difference in the clumping ability of the lower priced clumping litters as apposed to Scoopaway.

I agree JaimeMarie. . .we have tried several of the scooping litters but Oreo and Trixie are just fine with the pearls. . .and boy did it cut down on the smell!!
I think we're leaning toward Scoopaway, thanks for the advise! Katc- yes she has another kitten, but he is deaf too, as are all the adult cats . Yes, she is breeding them, though not because they are all deaf, but because she likes white cats and enjoys having kittens around. -- Jennifer
