Take a look at agama international's site (Bert Langerwerf) and they have research info posted. Colombians, however typically will not eat fruit, and if so very little amounts. Argentines and paraguayans will eat more fruit and especially reds need more fruit as they mature to aid with shedding. Colombians eat mostly meat & insects. The mix of each is determined by age/size.

The best of luck!

You must really be getting serious about getting a gold tegu. As much as I like to see more people trying Columbians I feel like I should point out once again they do have a reputation for being mean. It might be nice to start off with a more manageable tegu. I think all Columbians look great!! CB gold tegus might not get as gold as you'd think, I say that because I haven't seen many pictures of really golden colored adults. I've seen some golden coloration in babies but they might kind of grow out of it. I did find one picture of a really golden colored tegu but it's a photo from the the wild http://www.richard-seaman.com/Wallpaper/Nature/Reptiles/GoldenTeguLizard.jpg
A lot of people say the Columbian tegus generally eat more meat then the Argentine kind. With any tegu they should be more on a high protein (insect, meat) diet when they are young and growing, then switched over to more vegetable matter when they are adults. Sure you should also offer fruit when they're babies but he's probably going to go for the meat instead and that's ok. If you do decide to get a Columbian tegu please post some pics!

Hey Rollin! I checked out that pic and what an awesome looking tegu. I have seen numerous gold babies that look really nice, though not too many pics of adult golds, perhaps becasue not too many individuals have them. I also know a few people who have adult colombians (had them since babies) and they love them and are quite personable, though as you mentioned the odds are against that. :0)

Take it easy!

I just want to say thanks for all the help with my info finding. I apprecate the conrcern with the tractability of the Columbians vs. the Argentines, I have some experiance dealoing with large nasty lizards. I have worked with WC nile monitors before. I also currently own 1.1 Wc reticulated pythons, I will post pics of the little guy when I decide to order him, I still have to set up the tank as all that jazz.
