Never had a cat and was wondering...

RKGrapeJr May 03, 2004 11:57 PM

I have never had a cat but have been offered a baby black persian. I do not have any pets but would be more than willing to welcome one. My question is... I am in a one room apartment and have heard that cats have alot of odor. Is this true? If so should I reconsider? or is there a way to control the odor? Please let me know, I appreciate any help

Rick

Cats are actually very clean. It is the litterbox that creates the odor. It needs to be kept clean, fresh litter and in a well ventilated area. Cats usually do not like covered litter boxes (kinda like going in those stinky portajohnss-ugh!). So if you use clumping litter it will be much easier to keep the litter box clean and the odor to a minimum. One cat hardly creates any odor. I have three and most people can't tell until they see the kitties! A clean litterbox, food, water and a window will keep your cat happy. Also, please consider neutering or spaying, this will keep your cat happy and eliminate a cat's desire to "mark" their territory.

I think you may really enjoy having a kitty companion. You have received lots of advice both here and in the other forum. I would talk to your fiance about this cat and be sure it is healthy. Also you'll need a good climbing/scratching post!
