cleaning the carpet

meow2me May 05, 2004 10:36 PM

My dearest angel (NOT!) kitty, Voodoo, has begun her bad behavior again after about 6 months of being a model kitty. She urinates outside the litterbox against the wall in the dining room - usually when we come home in the evening. Since she started this a couple of weeks ago, we have been cleaning the box twice a day (we have 4 cats and 3 boxes), added a Feliway plugin to the room, spray with feliway and soak the spots on the wall and carpet with Nature's Miracle. Tonight she just did it again!! I haven't taken her to the vet yet, but I will if this keeps up. I know she uses the box at other times of the day, so I suspect it is behavioral. If I show her the box as soon as I come home, she promptly uses it. Then I relax for the rest of the evening. How strange...

My question actually is: even though I am soaking the carpet (and wall) with Nature's Miracle, the stains still show up under a black light and they don't seem to be getting any fainter, even though I don't really smell it as much any more. Do you think it is really working? I have treated some of them 3 times in 2 weeks.

Thanks,

Have you been cleaning it first with soap and water? Then spraying it with the natural's miracle? I heard from some one some where that is how your suppose to do it. Of course I have never tried so not sure.
Is she spraying from in her box? Our cats do that. They get in the box to go put spray out. Maybe a covered box?
Is Voodoo still pissed off about Puss& Boots?

Nature's Miracle has been split into two companies. One got the name and one got the formula.  Petastic is now the formula that was originally Nature's Miracle.  The Nature's Miracle by name, now is a very weak product. This could be why it's not working well.

Thanks, MA! That explains alot! I went to a different store this weekend and a woman told me the same thing. The Petastic product seemed to work faster. I thought it was because it was a fresh stain, but maybe, as you say, it is stronger than the new - and unimproved - Nature's Miracle.

Here is the website in case anyone reading this is interested:

Yes, Jaime, I guess you could say that! Voodoo rarely interacts with the other cats. Occasionally she stalks them and tries to bite their bellies. The other cats don't care for that, of course, but also don't really seem to be afraid of her. She definitely is the alpha kitty. She seems to be stressed right around the time we come home at night. Maybe too much activity with all 4 cats greeting us at once. After she eats, she goes to use the litterbox (or not). It is a covered box, which may be another problem, so I usually open it and talk sweetly to her. She comes to it as if to say "Ok, if that's where you want me to go, I guess no harm done." If I see her using the box, then I know we are OK. If not, I usually find a mess on the carpet in the corner of the room.
