Cat's Urine Seeps Through Liner AND Litterbox - HELP!

jannaj17 Jun 24, 2004 02:16 PM

I have tried a couple different litterboxes, the frame type pan from Walmart and the covered kind you roll on it's side to separate the waste from litter. I use the Tidy Cats Crystals litter because until lately, it has kept the litterbox the least smelly. I have a liner in the frame type pan now and after the cat goes to the bathroom a few times, the urine has seeped through the liner and through the plastic of the litterbox onto the floor. She isn't clawing holes into the liner, the urine is just somehow getting through. What can I do to stop this? It's very disgusting and leaves a horrible smell.
Also, I have the largest box I could find at Walmart, and she'll get in the box and sometimes hang her rear end right over the edge and go on the edge of the frame. How can I keep her butt in the litterbox? Thanks.

You may have to switch to a covered box or something. I am sure other will have better advice. BTW if you buy Nature Miracle it will help get the urine smell out of your floor.

I had a very similar problem with my three year old cat, Jersey. She is a big cat and I got her the biggest covered litter box I could find. She would still hang her butt halfway out the opening and pee on the floor. The way I solved that problem was to get a little pet mat. One end tucks under the litter box, and it catches all the pee that she doesn't get in the box. It is MUCH easier to clean than the floor.

Also I would recommend using Feline Pine litter. They carry it at Wal-Mart. It is very cheap and works better on smell and urine absorption than any other litter I have tried (a million times better than the crystals you are using).
