cat poops on floor out of spite

goofycat Apr 24, 2005 04:38 PM

Our 7 year old cat would have liter problems now and then after moving into new home. He became a very needy cat, always wanting attention. A second cat than passed away. The 7 year old seemed to like being alone now. A short time later we got a new cat. After about a year or so this now elder cat will poop fairly far away from from the two boxes in the basement when he doesn't get his way with something, like being left out (under supervision) etc. We've actually caught him then go down stairs and poop. He also started not covering his pee in the litter. We tried solo isolation and isolation with the younger cat for 4-5 days. He know's it's wrong. The doctor prescribed an anxiety medication but we stopped using it after a few days cause he acted strange, disconnected. Anyway, we are going to try solo isolation in a decent size area with his own box. The other cat will have a separate one just outside. After 4-5 days we'll let him out and repeat if he acts up again.
Should we go back to the anti-depressant pills? Are they too strong? 10 mg Elavil once daily.

Your cat may be marking - you might try Feliway on the places where he has pooped after cleaning with an enzyme cleaner such as Petastic or Heaven's own.
