parents trying 2 get rid of cat! HELP!!!

jigfeet Sep 02, 2007 11:14 PM

I have had my cat for over 5 years and nothing about her has changed. We got another cat 3 years ago and a dog 2 years ago but she has been fine with both of them. Suddenly 2 weeks ago she pooped right outside...about 5 inches...from the litterbox opening right against the wall (we have ours in our laundryroom under the countertop). than she did it again last week, and now she has been doing it every morning at about 6 o clock for the past 2 days. My parents say if she doesn't stop doing this they are getting rid of her, and they are 100% serious. The litterbox is ALWAYS pretty clean, and nothing has changed recently with their food or anything. She isnt sick and her exrement looks the exact same as always (aka no tape worms)
please help. I love my cat.

Hi There,

I always recommend a vet check when a cat suddenly stops using the litterbox, as there can be a medical reason-----even if the cat appears to be healthy. This would be ideal, but not possible if your parents aren't willing to spend the money. It couldn't hurt to go ahead and ask if this is a possibility.

You say that the litterbix is kept "pretty" clean. It needs to be VERY clean. It might even be a good thing to add another box as it is always best to have at least as many litterboxes as you have cats. You can also try putting newspaper under and around the litterbox, which might at least keep your kitty from pooping directly on the floor. Also, if the litter type has been changed, or has a strong scent, some cats may stop using a box.

I feel so bad for you. I can tell how much you love your kitty and don't want to give her up. I am hoping that something will work out so that she can stay with you. If not, it would be great if someone you know would take her in so that you can at least visit her.

Regards,
PHKitkat
