Cat pooping on carpet

Jasonc126 Nov 09, 2007 10:07 PM

I just don't what to do about my tiger cat. We have one litterbox in the house which is cleaned daily and one outside. Everytime he poops he cries and wants to go on the back porch where the other litter box is but the one in the house is already cleaned. Sometimes he poops on rugs but now he poops on the carpet. What do I do?

Hi There,

First, I recommend a vet check to rule out health issues. If all is well I would let this cat have access to both litterboxes. If you have more than one cat adding another litterbox may solve the problem. Sometimes cats can be very picky about the locations of their boxes or may not want to use a box recently used by another cat.

It's best to use unscented litter only and I usually recommend old-fashioned open litterboxes. If you are using a scented litter, perhaps it's too strong in the house for this cat. Try a regular box if you have a covered one.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
PHKitkat
