poops in bathtub?

tickytutt Dec 18, 2007 01:42 AM

We adopted our cat about two weeks ago. All was going well until last Friday when he pooped in the bathtub. I thought it was because I hadn't cleaned out his litterbox (I do it every other day), and I hadn't done it yet that day. But then he did it again yesterday morning! Now, I am posting this at 2:38am Tuesday morning because I woke up to the sound of plastic being ruffled under my bed. Guess what it was? Yup! And on my daughters Christmas present!! Thank goodness it was covered in a thick plastic. He is 11 years old and I'm wondering if his age doesn't have something to do with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,

You have to keep the litterbox very, very clean. Once every other day isn't nearly enough. Cats are very clean animals and do not want to use a box that is already full. I don't blame yours for using the bathtub and you shouldn't either. Imagine using a toilet that is only flushed every other day!

I think if the box is cleaned twice EVERY day your cat will use it.

Take care,

Thanks for answering my post. I think we solved the problem. I had bought a covered box and he was just too big for it. We took the top off and haven't had a problem since. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! But he still doesn't cover his poop...why?

Hi There,

Some cats just don't cover up. I have a few cats like that here.
I believe it is a way of marking their territory.

Often, when one of my cats doesn't cover up, another one will take over the task......it's pretty funny.

Take care,

Ya, Maybe I should get another cat...NOT!!! One is enough for me. I'll just cover it for him I would love to get another cat, but my son is Autistic and one is all I can handle for right now. Thank you for your help and advice. I like this site, it's very informative!

Happy Holidays!!!!!
