peeing on carpet

beachbeardies Jan 12, 2009 12:16 AM

i have 2 cats, both have a clean bill of health from the vet. one of them constantly pees in the same 2 spots on carpet at the bottom of our stairs. she also sometimes poops there too but the pee is what i cant stand the most due to the smell and stains. we rent out house too which makes it worse. first of all, what can i do to get her to use her litter box and not the carpet? she does use litter box sometimes but the carpet as well. we clean the 2 boxes everyday. second of all what kind of cleaner should we use on the carpet to get the stains out? we have used everything from regular carpet cleaner to carpet cleaner for pet stains, urine gone, even vinegar. the spot she pees on his now stained orange from her.

Hi There,

Did the clean bill of health from the vet include a complete urinalysis and culture to rule out a urinary tract infection? If not, this needs to be done.

Your kitty returns to the same spot because it still smells of urine. The best thing is to use a cleaner that contains enzymes........but I have found out the hard way that sometimes even these products don't work all that well. Believe it or not, I ended up tearing out the carpets in my last house because I couldn't get rid of the urine smell. There were areas I thought were clean, but I found out otherwise when I actually pulled up the carpet. It was very gross.

There is a litter called Cat Attract that sometimes works very well when cats are reluctant to use the litterbox. It's pretty expensive but might be worth it. I have seen Cat Attract in several different pet stores so it should be easy to find.

Good luck and please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Regards,
PHKitkat
