Why does my friends cat sit with her tongue sticking out?

zformulaone Jul 24, 2003 04:30 AM

She seems very content and normal in every other way, but her tongue sticks out a little bit. She doesnt do it all the time either. One time when she was doing it, I touched her tongue and she licked my finger and then went back to relaxing with her eyes half closed, but she did put her tongue back in. Has any one ever seen their cat do this? Any idea why?

If the tounge is just barely sticking out then that is probably normal. Many cats have their tounge just barely sticking out when their mouths are shut. I've had several that you could see a little tounge.

If the tounge is hanging way out, or if the cat is panting, then there is a problem that a vet should address. The cat may be dehydrated, sick or having a heart problem.
