Cat Chasing Water

teganslaw Jul 31, 2003 09:47 AM

I had to take my cat Star for her rabies shot yesterday and the vet had some spare time so he showed us a "trick" one of his office cats does. He squirts water out of a syringe and the cat chases the water around in circles. It's like one of those laser toys except with water. Too cute! I'd never seen a cat do that with water and now I want to buy a syringe and try that with my cats. With my luck, neither of my cats would be impressed. LOL. Did anyone ever hear of a cat doing that before?

Hahahaha! A new game!!

I never heard of it before but just tried it. One of my cats was not pleased. He gets fish-flavored medicine twice a day from an oral syringe. He LOVES his medicine. When I shot water out of the syringe, he ran to it immediately. I was quickly reprimanded. Apparently he thought he was getting extra doses of his yummy medicine and was not pleased to find boring water.

My other cat enjoyed this game for a minute, but then got bored. The syringes I have are very small. Maybe this would work better with a water bottle. First I'll need tips for drying up wet carpets.

Lisa, I am just curious....no actually YOU are Curious....but that's neither here nor there.... ... do you get your syringes from the pharmacy or do you have a special place you order them from online? I use the little ones to administer hairball remedy to the ones who won't lick it willingly and also to give Casey his water. I can't seem to find a pharmacy that will let me buy them and I can't for the life of me remember where online I ordered my last batch from. I am finally getting down to the nitty gritty and would like to order another supply.

Because one of my cats takes oral medication, one syringe comes free with each bottle. I once had to replace it before refilling the medication, and my pharmacy told me that normally they charge for them, but they gave me that one for free.

States vary in their regulations for needles. Junkies have to go through elaborate lies and schemes to get new needles in some areas. I can't think of a good reason why an oral syringe would be regulated, but it's possible they are in your state. (That's the only reason I can think of the local pharmacies not selling them to you.) The "regular" pharmacies at chain stores in my area also sell oral syringes for children, but the dosage markings are too big to be practical for the small amount of medicine my cat gets each dose. They're also overpriced, but that's another story...

Check with your vet. You may be able to order a batch from her/him. Also, did you check the Drs. Foster and Smith catalog? They seem to have everything. I'd be surprised if they don't have oral syringes. If neither of these options work, let me know and I'll work on it.

I haven't tried this but Boris loves running water. He will jump into the bath tub and chase the water down the drain. He will also scoot and hit his water dish until there is a puddle of water on the floor and play in that. Oh, I cannot forget the running water in the sink-he loves batting that with his paw. By the time I have finished shamppoing my hair, he has batted water and shampoo all over the bathroom mirrors, cabinets, floors, counter tops, ect. He will even run to the fridge if he hears an ice cube drop so he can bat that around for awhile. Then as it melts, he has his puddle to play in. If I tried the syringe thing, I would be cleaning water up everwhere. LOL

It sounds cool , but I'd never try it wit Fluffy. She hates risking getting a drop of water on herself.

My bridge kitty, Daisy was always fascinated with running water and with water in general. She also liked to follow people into the bathroom when they went to do their thing.

I had just started dating my husband after a long dry spell of no dates, and she followed him into the bathroom once. When he came out he was laughing so hard he could barely talk. Turns out he was the first male Daisy had ever seen urinate. She had this increduous look on her face according to DH. The ultimate in running water. Lucky she didn't chase it.

Tucker loves water also. He will push his bowl into the sink every chance he gets. When we hear it splash we all yell "TUCKER!!!"
He then runs as fast as he can. I am not sure if likes the water or if he likes getting us upset with him.
haha.
I should take him swimming. Then again don't think so. He would probably hate the lake.

Boris liked the swimming pool.

Maddie will bat at the water and try to pounce on the little stream of water as it makes it's way towards the drain if I squirt water in the sink. Well, they say mainecoons like water and she is afterall part coon.
