Fun *new* cat toy

octopusouphut Nov 03, 2003 10:29 AM

I've found a fun, *new* cat toy, and the best part? It's cheep! My two cats, Gizmo and Cubbie, apsolutly love them. What are they, you may be asking? Twist ties! I took something out of it's package one day and when I was cleaning up the mess I missed one of the twist ties. They had a blast just batting it around all over the apartment! The funniest part was it was one of those clear ones, so it looked like they were batting around thin air! But now, every time I get something that has a twist tie I leave it on the floor for a while so they can play with it. They don't play with the toys I buy them, but they play with the trash. Go figure. :O)

haha I bet they are having fun. I always throw down the ties off the milk jugs. But I watch the cats closely because one of them likes to eat the plastic.

mine love twisties, but they are verboten in our house. One of ours likes to eat them, same with the red bands off the water bottles (and qtips, little rattle mice and many other inedible things).

One favorite free toy that mom allows: the plastic tamper wrap around pill bottles and .5 liter water bottles. They hear the crinkle and kill each other to get there first.

Along those lines, pipe cleaners are fun too, and very cheap if you buy them at a craft store in a big pack.

My cats don't try to eat the twist ties, that I've noticed any way. I'll have to watch them more closely.
One day there was a spider on the floor and they had fun following it around for a while.
Other fun free toys they like are card board boxes. Gizmo espesoly. She likes to chew them and claw them and get inside them and then scare Chubbie by popping out.
One "toy" they aren't allowed to play with unless I'm around are plastic bags. Gizmo likes to chew on them, which is a no no, but she also likes to bat at my hand under it. But we don't play that game too often 'cause she also enjoys peeing on plastic bags, so I try and keep those off the floor :O)
Another free "toy" they have is their dish rag which I just wave in front of their face and they like to claw at.
I've bought them "real" toys but they don't care about them. The only real toy Cubbie likes are the catnip bubbles. And I don't know if it's the catnip or the bubbles he likes. Gizmo's just scared of the bubbles so she stays away from them :O)

one toy all 8 cats like is this feather on a string thing. It has a really long plastic cord and real feathers at the end. When you swing it threw the air it makes a noise the cats all go wild. I'll have to try and get a picture. Gabby does backflips trying to catch the thing.
It's the most expensive toy I have gotten for them. It was 8 dollars.

OH and the cat tree cost 25 or so.

I bought my cats a scratching post...they've never touched the thing. It just sits in the corner collecting dust.

my cats are orientals (a bombay and two burmese) and they absolutely love our trees. We have two 6.5 foot cat trees in the living room and another in the bunny room. the bunnies love the smaller levels of the trees as well. If we didn't have them they would climb all over us and our furniture-a very scary thought!
