Male cat strange kneading behavior!

stephanie1762 Dec 04, 2003 09:06 PM

Please help! I have a 3 year old neutered Maine Coon. Recently, he has started kneading on our bed with all four legs. He then gets in "the position" and starts some movements. We have also noticed he appears "excited". Is this some strange behavior? Has anyone else noticed this with their cats?

Neutered male cats do get "excited" from time to time. It is more of a dominance issue though. Is there a new cat in the house, or is he seeing one outside? Sometimes when they feel threatened they will "hump" the nearest inanimate object. I've heard of males going after stuffed animals, blankets, etc.

This is a very hard habit to break, mainly because not only is it instinctive, but once they do this they discover it "feels good". You could try some Comfort Zone plug-ins and see if that calms him down.

Good luck!
