New Kitty Help

kittypie Dec 26, 2003 01:17 PM

Hi everyone! Happy Holidays!

I got 8 weeks old kitty last Sunday from a private shelter. Her name is Pooknula and she is Russian Blue mix =) Since I never had cats before, some of pooknula's behavior is unusual for me....for example...when I'm petting my kitty..she turns her head and takes my finger in her mouth..but she doesn’t bite it..she just put her teeth on it..really really gently. Anybody knows what that means?

Thank you for your help! I will have more questions next time =)

Kittypie i can't speak for all cats but Babba will act like hes biting me and he never puts any pressure on the bite. One reason is when we are playing and the other is when he says enough is enough.
Your cat might be showing a act of love.Sounds like she really Loves you and feels the Love you got for her.I can tell theres a lot of Love between you two already. You both are so lucky.

Your kitten is still a little young to be taken from mom (most people recommend 12 weeks) and is probably "nursing" on your finger, or trying to. Even though she is being gentle it would be wise to discourage this behavior. Cats need to learn that human hands are off-limits. Gently remove your hand when this happens.

Give her loads of love and lots of interactive play time. She sounds really sweet and I hope she'll give you many long years of joy and companionship!

I took my kitty from the shelter..and people who brought her to the shelter found her on the street..so I had no choice of taking her home at 8 weeks =)when I got her she was still afraid of humans..so i'm giving her a lot of love ..so she would stop being scared. =)

I sort of figured this was the case, but I just wanted to let you know that the kitten is more than likely showing nursing behavior. She is very lucky to have "picked" you as her human and I'm sure you are taking excellent care of her!
