I have a 9 mo old female named Kitty, which I believe is a maine coon..she was rescued from a basement at 5 mos old and has never been spayed, or vaccinated..never has been sick..she's a good girl..but..yesterday she started doing something very strange..she will lay on the floor, bring up her butt and knead with only her hind legs..while doing this she's meowing and keeping her mouth open most of the time..she will also roll over on her back and then go back to the first position and continue kneading with her hind legs..this is my first cat so i don't know what to do..please help me..i want my kitty back

Oh, don't be scared, you cat is in heat. It's perfectly normal (and a bit annoying). Your cat is calling to a male to come and impregnate her. They can be quite encouragable, Toms will be doing everything they can to get to her and she'll be doing everything she can to get to them. Don't let her out and get her spayed as soon as possible, unless you want kittens! Mature cats will go into heat every two weeks until they become pregnant.
Spayed cats are healthier and live longer than those who aren't. They are less at risk for certain cancers, and won't get communicable diseases from other cats. Good Luck!

Destany is right your cat is in heat. It will last about a week maybe two. Once she is out of heat make an appointment as soon as possible to get her spayed. If you can't afford to get her spayed called the local shelters some times they have information on low cost spay/neutor programs.
Good luck.

She is in heat and wants to mate...She is not in pain, even if she looks desperate!...Please make sure you keep her indoors without contact with any male cat. You dont want her to get preggers, there are too many unwanted kitties in this world already.
You should take her to the Vet ASAP. She needs to be spayed. Besides preventing unwanted kittens, it will reduce her risk of breast cancer and other problems

Good luck!

The vet won't spay until she comes out of heat.
But as soon as she is out get her in there. Because she can go right back into heat.

Some vets will spay if the cat is in heat - and some will charge more for it. Be sure to call around and see what the deal is!

She will survive being in heat - I once had a cat who came into heat at four months - I wasn't expecting that! She was so desparate it was almost hysterical. She did calm down and she did get spayed! Your cat is not in any physical pain, but she is rather uncomfortable.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!

Interesting!! I guess the my vets just won't spay cats in heat. I wonder why. I'm calling my friend and telling her she can get her cat spayed now even though it's in heat. She will be so excited.
