can anyone beat this???

I have a two year old neutered cat who does some very strange things.. First, he had an obsession with socks..He would bring them near his food bowl usually during the night or while we were out. Now he started doing this with my child's beanie babies.. We set up the video while we were gone, and he climbs up on a desk to reach the beanies (which are on a shelf) and one by one (10 in all)brings them into our kitchen, sometimes he leaves them in the hallway.. Then he will hold one in his mouth while he "kneads" with his paws on another one.. And sometimes he brings them together and begins an awful "crying" sound.. I have no clue why he does this!!! We have had him since he was 9 weeks old.. The only thing unusual about him is he was raised by humans, as his mom when he was just a week old, but he has been one spoiled kitty!! Anyone ever heard of anything like this before?? Think I could win $10K on America's Funniest Videos?"!!?????

Patches (the evil calico) does the same thing. She steals our socks drags them all over the house and howls at the top of her lungs. Of course she has to do this in the middle of the night. I think she believes the socks are her babies or something.

I have heard of this sort of behavior before, but have never actually seen it. Probably it is a sort of "mommy" thing even though he's a male. Neutering would probably bring about more maternal behaviors.

This sounds similiar to a "cacheing" behavior I read about. Some cats hoard objects and get them out to check on them from time to time. One cat in the article had a rock collection that she kept in a jar and she would meow until her human emptied the jar. Then she would line the rocks up and sniff each one carefully and drop it back into the jar.

I think you should definitely enter that video in some contest! It sounds hilarious!

This sounds a little sad, as if he's missing his Mommy that he never knew. It sounds like he's kneading on his Mommy by kneading on the one beanie baby while 'nursing' on the other (Mommy). Also it seems as if he's 'crying' for her. Maybe another cat will help fulfill the 'Mommy' need in him. I, myself, wouldn't have the heart to enter it in America's Funniest Video since it seems sort of pathetic to me. Poor baby.

Meow!! Meow!! Meow!! Meow!!

How wonderful to do nothing and then rest afterwards. Meow!

I really wouldn't put in on TV> that was a joke.. But I do think you're right about the "MOM" thing- Although a veterarian's web site said that many cats love to suck or chew on wool as kittens, usually grow out of that but some carry it into adulthood..But the fact that he only does it when we're asleep or not home makes me think he's lonely.. Thanks

Well, I dont know if I can beat that very strange behavior, but I kinda have a similar query. I have a 2 year old neutered cat called Beanie and every so often when my family and I are watching tv , he will hop up and clamp his little jaws onto either your shirtsleeve or a blanket. He keeps this perpetual grip, all the while sticking his hind end up in the air, sometimes swiveling around in a cirle and kneading with his hind feet. If anyone knows what this is about, please let me know!
