growling and hissing cat

emilyandwillie Jun 30, 2004 06:11 PM

my kitten is 10 months old and she has been fixed for about 3 months now. the last week or so she has been growling and hissing at me, even bearing her teeth at me when she does so. she has done this a few other times with strangers to her that have came to my house, but never with me before. its getting so bad the last few days i cant even get close to her and she growls and hisses at me and then will try to claw and bite me. i dont have a clue why she is doing this???

You some how must have scared or pissed her off. Try coaxing her with a favorite treat. Let her come to you, don't rush in and try to pick her up. Eventually she should get back to her old normal self.

You also might want to take her to the vet. Sometimes this is a sign that she is in pain and doesn't want anyone to touch her.

I agree -- get her checked out by the vet. She may be acting this way because she's in pain.

Good luck!

It is also possible that she is ill or in pain someway. Is it possible for you to get her to the vet for a checkup? This is not normal behavior, and even if you had somehow scared her, for her to hold a grudge for a week is a bit on the long side. Good luck.
