lethargic new leo

SittonJ Oct 13, 2003 08:21 PM

My new leo that I got at a reptile expo on Sunday is hiding all the time -even at night and acts somewhat lethargic when i pick her up. is this natural since she is newly transported to new environ.? Also, eventhough I have an undertank heater, the tank feels a little cool to me. room air temp = 77 deg. Can someone tell me if i need a basking light too?

when i first got my leo, he was kinda like that for the first few days. after a while, he started going and and walking on everything, even my hand when i put it in. he loves running up my arm and is pretty active now. also, since you said your room is cold, make sure you have a thermometer in your leo's tank to make sure it's 86F-90F during the day and lower 80s during the night. hopefully she'll be like my leo and pick things up in a couple days and start running to you

Thanks for the tip. Did you handle her every day when you got her or did you just let her acclimate to the surroundings without handling? My leo isn;t eating yet either and I am hoping this won't be too bad for her health and that she will start soon (I got her Sunday so this will be the 3rd day without having eaten anything). Any advice on this? I moved her favoite hide to the warm side of the cage and now she is spending all her time on that side. I don't think the tank is too cold be cause my room temperature is 80 degrees and I have a UTH on one side. I also put the lamp up based on recommendations, but I just read someone's post saying that they don't like the lamps and prefer the UTH. Don't you need the lamps to regulate their day/night cycle????
