i was thinking bigger stones would be better so it leaves more room for the water to sit between them... whats your opinions on this.. and about what size half inch; inch; etc.

Depends on the frogs you plan to put in the tank. Can they get down between the rocks? For larger frogs not a problem, but I use a medium sized pea gravel and had some issues with my imitators geting down in the rocks a bit. I fixed it with some moss, and smaler rocks, but still something to watch out for.

i wouldn't use stones, they just weigh too much for me. i use to use a combination of both big and small (big at bottom and small on top). but i would really think about using LECA or other false bottom techniques. but thats just me.
Try a false bottom, i used medium rocks in one of my tanks and when i moved it, i think i almost pulled something.
And false bottoms will allow you to do more like add heaters and larger filters and pumps, but mainly its just lighter.
