Scary Wakeup Call

fluffy_kinns Nov 24, 2004 04:26 PM

I have a beautiful tortois shell short haired cat called pepsi.
In the morning i'm used to waking up and finding her at the foot of my bed if shes not next to me. When it's time for bed she comes and finds me and walks up to my room stopping and coming back for me if im not folowing her. However in the morning she's not so sweet, I once woke up to find her sitting on my chest looking at me and she just pounced/pounded on my chest wiv her front legs. Obviosly i was surprised, shocked and scared coming out of sleep and all I wonder what she wanted.

It's hard to determine what exactly causes a change like that in a cat's behavior. Perhaps she was startled by something outside or she heard a difference in your breathing...Not much fun to get a wake up call like that, however!

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!

It sounds like your tortoiseshell is kneading on you with her paws. My cats do that to me all of the time.

The kneading behavior is a holdover from kittenhood. When they were kittens, during nursing, they would 'knead' on their mother's teat to stimulate milk flow. They would very slowly push with one front paw and draw back the other front paw, almost like 'kneading' bread.

Many times when the kittens grow, they retain their milk tread behavior because it makes them feel secure and relaxed. A lot of adult cats also display this behavior.

Your kitty obviously loves you and considers you her mother. I love it when my cats knead on me.

First you have to download your photos in the Photo Gallery which is on these boards. Look on the top part of this site and click on Photo Gallery. After you've downloaded them, then you just click on the Select Image at the bottom when you are writing a post.
