Is there anything i can do for a cat that hisses and growls at company?

ki_ki_calico Jan 17, 2005 08:25 PM

My calico's disposition is generally good. She has her attitudy, true calico moments but mostly she's a sweetie to me and my husband. It is not until we have a company that we see her real evil side. Everytime someone comes over, it is the same routine. She greets them at the door, sniffs them, sometimes give a friendly, little lick, then proceeds to back away. Then she will sit in the middle of the room staring at our guest, if they move or talk to her she growls and if they come near her she hisses. We don't have people over a lot and it may be that she is just not used to people other then us but i was just wondering if the is something i can do to make her more comfortable around strangers. And i'm scared that this may get worse and she may actually start attacking our guests. If anyone has any tips, i would love to hear them.

She is a beautiful cat. Maybe you should confine her to a room with her water and litter box, and some toys when you have guests over. It may be to stressful for her.

She is a real beauty! Since she doesn't withdraw voluntarily from your guests you would be better off isolating her in a quiet room with her favorite toys, pillows, food and a littebox while they are visiting and not even allow her to "greet" the guests.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
