Cat getting bald patch

michfrochick Jan 26, 2005 05:51 PM

I've recently noticed my indoor cat Tigger is starting to loose hair in two small spots at the base of his tail. One spot is kind of on the left side of his rump and the other is on the right. When you touch him in either one of the spots it seems sensitve to Tigger. I also noticed he's started biting on furniture and he's never done that before. I don't know if thats related to the spots or what. My husband and I will probably take him to the vet. I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen this before and if they know right away what it is.

I am glad you will be taking Tigger to the vet since bald patches can be caused by so many things. If he is overgrooming due to anxiety this could also explain the biting on the furniture which could be another way Tigger is showing that he is upset about something.

Good luck! Let us know what the vet says!

Or it could be ringworm.

Well it turns out Tigger had fleas. He was over grooming where the fleas were the worst. He thank goodness does not have ringworm. He stopped biting furniture after treatment and doesn't act weird towards his butt anymore.
Thanks for the replys.

Great - thank YOU for the update. Sometimes the symptoms are worse than the cure which is why you should go ahead and get the cat to the vet! Long life to Tigger!
