Maggie's Eccentricities

ishy Mar 25, 2005 03:02 PM

My four-year-old cat has several eccentricities, some of which I've mentioned before, but I decided to make a list of them.

1. Loves to be held, but only on the left shoulder. Should I put her on the right shoulder, she switches to the left every time. Has preferred the left shoulder since the first time I picked her up as a 4-mo-old kitten when I put her on my right shoulder and she scared the dickens out of me by switching to my left.
2. Goes into the (dry) bathtub and digs at the back corner every time I go into the bathroom.
3. No matter how clean her litterbox is, if there is any draggable item to put in it within 100 yards, she will try to drag it in there.
4. Should any stranger come into the house, she gladly brings all of her toys to them. Will make it easy for any robber to steal 15 mouse toys, 2 bass guitar strings, one piece of thick black ribbon, and my laser pointer.
5. Runs out the door when I am talking to neighbors regularly, but makes it down no more than 4 steps before losing her nerve and running back through the door every time.
6. When I take for for (rare) walks on the leash, she is fine 5 feet from the building, but howls mercilessly 6 feet or more from the building.
7. Has to sleep right next to my head, draped over a shoulder.
8. Gets mad and yells at me if I try to stay up past 10pm.
9. Once used the open dryer for a litter box when I had just cleaned her regular box (and she watched me clean it).

Oh she also sits and lays down on command, and if she hears me tell the other (more obstinate) cat to sit, she runs out from wherever she is and sits, with a look of, "See, *I* can sit! Where's *my* treat?

I wish we could edit.

I need to add some things I thought of:

-Her favorite food is Cheetos, but she likes any kind of crunchy cracker or popcorn. I only found this out because I dropped bag of Cheetos and she went berzerk over them. She also likes to carry them around the house. This also apparently extends to anything made of styrofoam, which to my dismay I found her munching on when I got a package with packing popcorn in it. Now I have to be real careful to get rid of any styrofoam immediately if I get something with it in it.

-She loves it when I give out cat treats, but only if I throw them so she can chase them. Then most of the time she lets her sister eat them while she begs for me to throw another one (her sister loves this arrangement).

-She develops crushes on random male (human) friends of mine, and flirts mercilessly. Yes, she is spayed, although this started when she went into heat 4 days before her appt to be fixed as a kitten, and she got a crush on my brother. My brother was not amused.

Yes Maggie different has some odd behaviors. It sounds like if you take all of my cats' eccentric behaviors and put them into one cat.
The crush one is the worst. I live with a cat that decides to get a crush on me every once in a while. She will not leave me allow and follows me every where. If it was my own cat I wouldn't mind but it's not and she bites, or scratches you when she feels like it.

When people come over, Maggie gets all every toy she can find. Then she hounds anyone and everyone to play with her. If there is a guy over that she decides she likes, she goes and sprawls on his lap, purrs, and gazes adoringly at him. If he stops paying full attention to her, she reaches up and pats his chin. That's something she doesn't do to me! And she never does this to a female friend, only particular male friends!
