My cat, Violet, is around two and a half years old. I got her from TLC when she was 7 weeks old. She has become my cat and prefers me over anyone, including my parents, in the house. She is the sweetest thing. All you have to do is look at her and she starts to purr but she is so scared. If you sneeze too loud she jumps up. Last night I was eating ice cream and when Violet came in my room I accidently hit the side of the bowl and it made a sound and of course Violet jumped. So I did it again to see if she would jump again and she did. So I kept doing it at a constant pace and she jumped or at least twitched every single time. No matter what we do she is scared. We don't hit her and she gets so much love it would make you sick. I don't know what to do about it but she has scratched me a few times because when you hold her and she gets scared she needs to hug you and her back claws sink in. Does anyone know why she is like this and what I can do to make her not so jumpy?
Thanks Samantha

I adopted a 10week old kitten last year and to this day he jumps at the slightest thing! Sometimes it's just a spoon on the counter! He has never been abused in my home, gets all the love and attention he will tolerate from me so my husband and I cannot figure it out. He even hides at hearing a strange voice in the house! I'm hoping with time and patience and love he'll get over it, if not I guess I just have a big 11 pound scaredy cat on my hands! (I have two other cats and they are not like that.)

That is exactly how Violet acts. She still creeps in my bedroom and then runs to the other side once she made it passed the door. I posted this thread in another part of the forum and a few of people told me that this is how my cat will be and I should just accept it because it may get better in time. I am a little bummed about it because she is the perfect cat and this is causing a problem in her everyday life. I'm hoping that she will get better in time too. Good luck to you and your kitty.

She's still your purrfect kitty! She just has a quirk! Jsut love her as she loves you! I sometimes feel bad for my kitty too and a bit guilty, but it wa nothing I did and as long as I show him how much I love him, I just let him be himself. I don't try to force him out of being scared. He's just one big bundle of sweetness. Take care of yourself and Violet. >^..^
