Kitty Going for Eyelashes

ettyandkitty Jun 03, 2005 02:48 AM

I have a six week old Bengal/Manx mix (she has a tail) and she keeps waking me up in the middle of the night. It's always for the same reasons. Either she doesn't want to be in the same position she's in or she just wants to go for some part of my body. Since we've had her, she keeps going for my eyelashes. Tonight, she cam really close to getting my eyes with her claws. She got the skin really close to my eye, but didn't do any damage. Is there any way we can deter her from this? Also, during the day, she bites my arms and wrists a lot. Her teeth hurt! LOL... Any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated.

At six weeks old she will go after anything that moves, and probably you're blinking a little in your sleep, so your eyelashes become a good toy, lol! She'll grow out of it, I'm sure. Gently but firmly tell her 'no' when she does that and also when she bites you.

However, if you fell it's getting really dangerous for your eyes, consider clipping her claws with a nail clipper or have them removed surgically.

A temporary solution would be to wear an eye mask while sleeping, you know, those that you get in airplanes for night flights.

Good luck! Tilda

The suggestion to clip the kitten's claws is a good one - but please don't declaw her or she might become more aggressive.

Be sure to play with her right before you go to bed to help tire her out! Of course a young kitten like that will be extremely playful and will also sleep in fits and turns.

Here is a link to an article with some info about biting and agression - it may help you:
