It seems to be opposite in my case. I have 3 females and one male. It's the male who walks around, meowing, all of the time. Maybe it's because he's a himalayan which is part siamese and siamese are very vocal, so I've heard.
I think that it might be more breed related than sex related.

my male and one of my females are very vocal and my other female is quiet as a church mouse! haha. They are domestic cats.
I think they are just like kids, I think every cat is different, no matter what breed they are (although I have heard certain breeds are more vocal than others definitely).

TEST
Mine are "chatterers". Now my female has a more prounced voice than the male. His chatter is much higher pitched and more "kitten-like" (they are a little over a year old.) He's only noticeably more vocal at feeding time... it figures... he weighs 5 lbs MORE than her, too!
