Cat went psycho berserk today why?

LwlMasmokes1 Sep 25, 2005 11:03 PM

I'll start off my saying my cat and I are very close. She's just over a year. Not the friendliest cat to strangers but to the family she is usuauly very well. This cat follows me everywhere no matter where i go in the house & usualy sleeps with me most nights.

In the last week i've noticed a little bit unusual behavior. Usually if you drop somthing she'd run or if you had the vacuum cleaner out she would also run. But as i said this past week she has been very brave , she followed me with this vacuum cleaner hissing & i dropped a fan and she darted in front of me hissing at the fan perhaps protecting me.

Anyways my two uncles are visiting from out of state.

This mourning around 7 am i awoke to my cat going insane lunging and attacking my uncle. Even after I took her away she found a way back out of her containment and went back for revenge. Than i brought her in my room and barracded the door so she was in there with me for about 3 hrs sleeping next to me like back to normal. But when i woke up and she followed me back out and still emitting insane roars and rumbles via pet cemitary type of rage. So i placed her in the bathroom to re contain her . I left for awhile and my brother opend the bathroom door to the cat lunging at his leggs clawing him . He containd her again in another room. When i got home from the call i recieved i let the cat out and tried to cage her for the protecting of my family and other friends / strangers cat is un aware of. After I caged her she seemed angry but not as vicious so i left again to run errands . Somehow she got loose out of the kitty taxi and than attacked my brother again and proceeded to hunt him even after he ran . After he even shut the door on her she berserking at the door clawing it like to knock it down or somthing I dunno. Again I came home and my friend and I basicly had to fight the cat back into the cage both of us and the others all recieving scratch wounds and bites.

What could of caused this radical jump from strange behavior to insanity. At the moment she is still caged and awaiting a trip to the vet tomarrow am.

Perhaps Like the "POISON" post in august could my cat also be suffering from maybe rat poison she found or anything like that?

This is insanely out of charecter and frieghtning i never seen a cat just turn like this. And some how i feel i violated her trust for me by caging her . After i caged her i swear she doesnt look at me with the kindness rather with hunting eyes.

How ? Why ? If any replies before tomarrow would be wonderful.

Hopefully you've been to the vet and ruled out any organic reason for her sudden hostility.

It sounds as if she may be seeing another cat outside and then re-directing her aggression, or perhaps she was very much startled and is associating your uncles being there with the scary thing. I have read where a broom stick dropping on the floor can totally turn a cat into a basket case - given the right circumstances.

For the safety of the others in your house, she needs to be isolated in a room where no one execpt you goes into - or you will need to get her a large cage for a bit. She needs to be out of traffic completely and left alone except for visits by you. Playing with her will help relieve some of the aggression if you use a feathered cat toy.

At this point your vet might want to consider putting her on a mild antianxiety drug, however, even if this is prescibed she does need to be isolated for a bit and then after you uncles leave, gradually re-introduce her into the household.

Good luck!
