Unusual Scratchin

d_ray_ca Apr 28, 2006 10:17 AM

I have two cats. One is 9 months and one is 2 years. Recently, when I am at work, one or both of them, has started scratching the front door and carpet in front of it. It is almost like they are trying to escape. It has gotten so bad that they have ripped up the carpet and taken wood off the door. They only do it when I am not home. They have never destructively scratched anything before and both use a scratching post. I have tried spraying the area with repellent as well as taping tin foil over the area, as I heard that cats hate the noise. Nothing has helped and I am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions or has experienced the same problem. Thanks,
Desiree

Hi There,

I would either try putting bowls of cut citrus fruit on the carpet as close to the area as possible, use some of that plastic carpet protection mat stuff (uncomfortable side up), or even putting scratching posts in the area to try and distract them.

I will post again if I think of any other options.

Regards,
PHKitkat
