I think this is something you should discuss with your vet. It may be nothing, but it also may be a symptom of something they need to look at. My two cats will be 15 shortly and neither has ever "coughed" that I know of. I wouldn't worry overmuch since it is infrequent, but I would absolutely check it out with the vet since it isn't something cats do often. There may be a simple explanation or something they can cure.

Oh yeah i also forgot to add that she has no other symptoms shes playful and eating and drinking normally
Hi There,
It can be very serious when a cat coughs, especially if it is recurring. Coughing can be caused by feline asthma, bronchitis, heart problems, pneumonia or even a foreign body. All of these things are treatable but would tend to become worse without treatment.
I highly recommend you make an appointment and take your cat in for a exam and chest x-ray ASAP.
Some believe that cats with hairballs will cough, but this isn't true. Hairballs come from a cat's GI tract, not the lungs, so "coughing up a hairball" isn't even possible.
Please take your cat in and let us know how it goes.
Regards,
PHKitkat
I dont know if this would have anything to do with it but so far every time she has coughed she has been sleeping she then wakes up coughs and goes back to sleep without any problems, i don't know when it started as we only accquired her a few months ago as she was afriad to go into her house when the owners got a new dog
Please check with your vet. I didn't list the possibilities in my first e-mail to you so as not to alarm you, but PHKitKat is right -- it can be a sign of something serious. I've heard it tied to heart disease. It is not common for a cat to cough and since this is infrequent, it may well be early and very curable (anything from allergies to heart problems). Please get her checked out -- even if she is acting normal otherwise. It may be a simple treatment now, but if you let it go, it may become serious and worse. You won't know until you get her checked -- folks can only speculate on a board -- a vet needs to actually see her to let you know what is going on.
