cat in heat.....for me?

leenie Jul 10, 2006 05:50 PM

One of my guy friends recently got a famle "kitten" of about 6-8 months. He got her from a female friend of his. The first time I went to see his new kitty(about 3 wks ago), she was very sweet and affectionate. Within a few hours of me being there, she began to act as though she was in heat....crazy meows, pacing room to room, sticking her hind in the air and kneading w/ her back legs. But there was no blood to be found, only just clear liquid; leaking. We assumed she was in heat and let it go. But last night I went to visit again, and she began this all over again. My friend says that she DOES NOT do this when it is just the 2 of them. Only when I come over. And I am the only female who's been over since he got her.
Is it me,personally, or is it because I'm a female in her house? She acts as though she is in heat and "ready"..... but for ME!!! Does anyone know what this strange behavior could mean? and Why?
Thanks : )

Hi There,

Unless this cat has been spayed, chances are that she really is coming into heat. It could be only coincidence that this behavior seems to happen when you are around. Or perhaps you have been around a tomcat and this puts the female into full-blown heat.

If this is a spayed cat, I would suspect that some tissue was accidently left inside her belly, most likely part of an ovary. In this case, a second surgery would be recommended. Without a second surgery, the cat would be at high risk for developing mammary cancer later on. The risk is high for any cat that has been allowed to go into heat more than once.

If it is unknown whether the cat has been spayed or not, a vet can shave her belly to look for a spay scar.

BTW, cats don't bleed when they are in heat, as dogs do.

Take care,
PHKitkat

Thanks for the info!!! : )
I figured it was b/c she is going into heat. And no, I don't think she is spaid yet. But I will let the owner know he has to soon. The only male cat I am around on a daily basis is my own, but he was neutered a long time ago. However, I pet almost every animal I come in contact with, so I guess there's a possibility that she smells something on me that gets her horny!! ha ha
Again, Thanks...I will pass it on.
