male cat cleaning kitten

lle672 Sep 14, 2006 05:34 PM

I have a male maine coon cat who is not even 2 years old yet. He is very affectionate and sweet to me and my boyfriend. He loves my other two cats as well (who are both males). I have noticed him actually licking the baby (i just got him a week or so ago), and cleaning him. I see him doing this to cubby as well (who is only 6 months younger than him). Is this normal for male cats to do?

I have male cats like that.

I have one cat who loves babies so much, he has raised a couple of litters of kittens. (Everything except the feeding part, of course.)

I don't know how common this is, but it's quite sweet. I have two cats, a male and female, who just tolerate each other. The male, Quentin, tries to boss the female around and I can't imagine him getting along with a kitten. Maybe it's the personality of a Maine Coon that he's so affectionate.

I have a male and a female siamese. The male will sometimes clean her but mostly it is her cleaning him. I think it is rather normal. My old cat used to think that Lexi(long haired chihuahua) was his baby and they were constantly laying together and I rarely had to give her a bath because the cat already had MOL.

Hmmm... I wonder if they do it because there are just some spots like the ears that they can't reach well themselves ???
