Very perplexing behavior

cleosmom Oct 08, 2006 03:21 PM

My cat who is about 13 years old has found a VERY strange place to relax/sleep. 2 days ago she started laying down in her litter box and staying there. I try taking her out repeatedly and she just returns. I have tried making her a really soft bed in case she is achy or something bc I cant think of any other reason why she would want to lay in her box. Has anyone encountered this odd behavior? Thanks!

Hi There,

This may be an indication that your kitty isn't feeling well. I highly recommend that you have her examined by a vet, and have a blood panel and urinalysis done at the same time. A thirteen year old cat is at high risk for many health issues and the sooner a problem is diagnosed, the better.

Please make an appointment and let us know how it goes.

Regards,

I second Kitkat about taking the cat to the vet. Many times I've read that lying in the litterbox is the sign of some illnesses, and if you catch it early on, it would be much better for her.

Let us know what the vet says!

Thanks for the responses! I took Cleo to the vet and she has a UTI and anemia. Poor baby! The antibiotics seem to be working for the UTI (she no longer stays in the box) but we are still trying to find the cause of the anemia. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the update - very often cats with UTI's will sleep in or near the box. Hopefully the anemia question will be resolved.

Many healing **GLOWS** to your furbaby!
