Scared for my two babies

fluffy_kinns Dec 07, 2006 03:48 PM

Ok i have two adorable male kittens Fitz & Trix(well cats their 1 year old) they are both quite small and have been spayed so dont do the whole mating call thing, but there is this black tom cat that is always in or near our garden wailing horrificly, i think he is in heat. Our neighbours cat is lovely and was always in our garden, Fitz didn't mind her but Trix hated her anyways i discovered she was in heat and that was probly the reason she was always hanging around my 2 gorgeous boys. She is pregnant now and she probly put her scent down in our garden which is why this tom keeps wailing & coming round. He seems really nice and friendly when i approached (only once don't want to encourage him) but if he knows an in heat female once was here he might get teritorial and aggressive to my 2 boys even though it is their garden, now i'm scared to let them out at night because i don't want them to get hurt the cat looks older and bigger than them. What can i do

Given the size of your babies and the tom, I would not let them outside unless you were there to supervise and chase off the intruder.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!

Hi,

I would seriously consider keeping your cats indoors, and not just because of the possibility of a cat fight. There are diseases they can contract, and they can be injured, or even killed, by other animals, cars, etc.

If you must let your cats out, it should be during the day and only when they will be supervised. To me, there are just too many risks to letting cats roam free.

Hi,
yea thats what i used to think, dont let em out coz i wanted them to be housde cats but its a bit out of order beacuse they need to live life out and about but this male cat was a bit scary. I left a note on the door not to let them out in the night but i went downstairs and my mum let them out in the morning. I was still a bit scared but at least its day time, this was 2mornings ago and my babies have come back and are fine i havent heard that tom cat howling around here any more either so its thumbs up for now. :D

Yesterday my neighbours knocked on my door and was askin if i have seen their cat, she hasn't been home for a few days. Ithought that would happen im scared because she has probably gone somewhere outdoors to give birth. this is terrible because anything can happen to her and her new born litter

That is exactly why you should keep your cats indoors. I lost two cats that I dearly loved when I was a child because they were hit by cars. The mother cat is probably fine and caring for her kittens somewhere safe and hidden, but since they're outdoors, and they may even mature outdoors, there's a chance they'll grow up wild and never be domesticated.

I never let my cats outdoors and they're perfectly safe and pretty happy most of the time. I give them cat grass and catnip and they sometimes kick the dirt out of my plants to roll around in. But even if they were at the door all day whining to get out (which they aren't), I'd rather them be safe than diseased or dead.
