Female Cat Takes my Dishcloths and bread

slb22601 Feb 01, 2007 07:40 PM

My female cat gets on my counter and takes my wet dishrags and puts them on the floor. She also drags loaves of bread on the floor and lets them lay, she doesnt tear it open. Does anyone have any idea about this strange behavior???

I really can't explain the behaviour only tell you that my youngest cat also does a similar thing, only he takes bananas instead of bread.

Hi There,

I have heard of cats stealing small towels and dishcloths that are dry, but not wet. I wonder if your girl, for some reason, sees them as prey. I do know that it's pretty common for cats to put their toys into water, which may be their way of "finishing off" their prey.

As far as taking bread, but not eating it, perhaps she likes the plastic bags. Some cats are really attracted to plastic, but they usually will chew and/or lick it. I have one that will steal bread, but it is because it's his favorite food! When I go grocery shopping, I have to make sure I put the bread away first

Regards,
PHKitkat

She was a stray that came around and had 4 litters of kittens. When she first did the dishrags was when she was pregnant or in heat. As for the bread bag she just gets it and drops it on the floor. When I show her the dishrag that she put down she turns her head and runs off.
