Confused and Frustrated

arianna Jul 25, 2007 10:50 PM

This one is a two parter. My six month old kitten Lessa, has developed two new habits, one is amusing the other is very much not.
First off she likes to swim in my bubble bath and stand in the shower with me, but only so long as I don't acknowledge that she's there. *scratches head* As soon as I talk to her or try to pet her she leaps out and acts offended as though I dragged her in the water with me. Any explinations for this one?

Secondly, and the one that's driving me up the wall, Lessa has started shredding paper, all sorts of paper. I can't get her to stop. Is there something I can do? Yelling doesn't seem to work, and I refuse to take my mothers advice and smak her nose for it. Please help me stop this behavior before she destroys something important.

Hi There,

We don't always understand some of the things our cats enjoy. Some cats love water, others hate it. I have one cat, Ashley, that often comes running when she hears me turn on the shower. She gets in the tub with me and leaves when she wants. Since I'm showering, I don't pet her, but I do talk to her while she is there with me. Since your kitty doesn't want you to touch her when she is in the tub with you, I just wouldn't do it. She has her reasons as cats always do.

As far as shredding paper, to some cats it's great fun! A cat doesn't understand about some papers being very important. Some of my cats have a great time with paper so I am careful to not leave anything important out for them to destroy. It's not worth getting frustrated over this. Just keep your papers safe or keep your kitty out of the room. Shredding paper is just a normal cat thing. There is no magic solution to this issue.

Take care,
PHKitkat
