cat shreds paper

fmac Jul 26, 2007 03:51 PM

my cat shreds paper! It is so annoying as I work at home and can't pput away every piece of paper. I usually clap my hands loudly and she'll stop, but I'd like to stop her doing it in the first place. I think she does it more when she's unhappy - wants food or attention (neither of which she gets when she does this). She's an indoor/outdoor cat so can go out to the garden whenever she likes if she's bored. FMAC

Hi There,

It's not unusual for a cat to enjoy shredding paper. I have a few here and I just keep anything that is important put away. With my cats it's more of a play thing than anything else, although one of them will shred paper if she thinks it's time for me to get up.

Really, the only thing you can do is keep your important papers away from your kitty. Or possibly just keep her out of the room where you work. Or even put her outside while you are working, although I don't personally let my cats go out.

Some cats just plain love the sound of paper rustling and tearing. It's a game to them.

Take care,

PHKitkat
