Her baby?

ladyjane16 Aug 10, 2007 01:41 PM

My female cat has "adopted" a stuffed animal (one of those little Pink dogs they give out at Victoria's Secret) that she carried around in her mouth and meows when she does so. She does it at night, mostly, but sometimes during the day. The meow is kind of a pitiful one, and she only does it when she's holding the toy in her mouth. Any ideas as to why she does this?? I call the toy her baby because she carries it around.

Hi There,

I have a few cats that carry their favorite toys around and cry, both males and females. In many cases I do believe that the toy is a substitute "baby", in other cases I believe it is similar to a cat security blanket. Either way it does seem like the toy has been adopted by the cat.

With the males, I sometimes find their favorite toys beside them as they sleep. Interestingly, both of my boys who do this tend to be insecure cats.

This behavior is fairly normal and I think it's adorable. Even though the cat may sound pitiful it's only because the cat is meowing with something in it's mouth.

Regards,
PHKitkat

My 20 year old cat has 5 catnip sockies that seem to be her "litter" she sleeps with them, takes them to the food dish and water dish and litter box too. She doesn't do it as often now as she used to, but heaven help the cat that bothers or touches one of her babies. They all know now and none of them are brave enough to touch them
