Anyone else have a cat addicted to brushing?

shortstff467 Mar 24, 2003 11:38 PM

When Shorty wants to be brushed she jumps up on the cabinet we use and raises a ruckus till I brush her. She stands and turns her self so I can reach all parts. When she is satisfied with her head, back an tail, she lays on her back so i can do hur tummy.....all the while purring up a storm.....now is this wierd?

No, Boris is just the oppposite. I tried "Munchie's" idea last night and gave him his own comb to chew on while I tried to comb mhim. He jumped straight into the bathtub with the comb and I had to tackle him there and try to comb him. It did work for about 5 minutes and that was it. I still had to put on the leather gloves.

None of my cats like to be brushed, not even Simba. The closest they'll come to letting me brush them is when I use one of the gloves with the nubs on it - but only for a couple of minutes. Then they take off like a cat out of heck! As they are running away from me, they are saying, "See ya, wouldn't want to be ya! Meow!".

Simba does behave himself while being groomed at PetCo. However I will admit that he doesn't really have a choice because they put one of those harness thingies on him so that he can't escape.

I have never had a cat who liked to be brushed. Sigh....it's always a fight.

Bob actually likes to be combed...On his own terms. Because of the winter, we started making this routine where I comb him right after I shower (to take advantage of the humidity in the bathroom preventing him from becoming an amorphous fluffy ball).
So now I improved the monster I have created!!! Everytime I step out of the shower I find a kitty crying and wailing to be combed (he won't even let me get dressed, LOL). Also, when its time to comb my OWN hair, he will start meowing again, as in saying: Why aren't you combing ME?
There are some areas where he doesn't like to be combed: belly, back of his legs, etc. They HAPPEN to be his problem areas (darn).
Daisy will 'tolerate' combing on top. She is such a pretty lady (keeps herself immaculately groomed)she doesn't really need combing but once or twice a week (plus her hair is thicker than Bob and doesn't really mat).

I can't say any of mine ask to be combed, but they don't object. 7 of them are short hair, so there isn;t all that much to comb. Maddie on the other paw, is a pain in the tail because she has the thick undercoat. She doesn't fight me either, but she yells "Nooooooo" at the top of her lungs. It's really very comical.

Yup Im definitly getting the impression that Shorty is a bit of an odd duck. But then she did marry Pepper and seems to be making a go of it, so why am I surprised.

Ash is like Shorty --- He loves to get brushed and gets brushed every morning. What is funny is that Peter taps the brush on the counter and all 3 cats jump up to get brushed!

Ash needs it and loves it and gets brushed and/or combed thoroughly all the time. Without frequent grooming he would be a matted mess!!!

Zade likes to be combed or brushed too, even if she doesn't need it. She also will come jump up on the bathroom sink when I am brushing my hair and likes me to brush her too. My brush has my hair and hers in it --- LOL.

New little Antares is also learning to get brushed even though he really doesn't need it --- it is just the principle of the thing --- but he is deciding it feels pretty good!

So Yes, Shorty, we do have 3 cats who get brushed and like it!

Most of our kits like being brushed as long as it's only on the back. Some like their sides brushed too, but fortunately the two longhairs (Sierra and Tribble) love being brushed all over and will roll over on their backs to make sure I get them ALL over.

Bob sounds like he's one lovable kitty cat with a very magnetic purrsonality! I love his spunk!

When I shower, two of my cats, Simba and Katrina, jump up on the ledge of the bathtub and sit on the outside of the fabric shower curtain and 'shower' with me. Just enough water comes through that curtain to get them wet. It's so funny to see them 'shower' first on one side, then turn around to 'shower' the other side. While I'm towel drying, they are both busy grooming their little wet bodies. I guess it saves on their saliva! I think that it's so cute that they figured that out themselves. Cats are so intelligent - it's amazing.

Both Katrina and Simba are long haired!

I have a six month old Ragdoll kitten called Benny. From the day I brought him home I started giving him the occasional brush. He never demands anything, however he runs to my lap when he catches me even touching the brush.

I use a small bristle hair brush and he loves it ALL OVER especially on his belly, under his forearms and on the back of his legs. To tell you the truth I think he craves mostly the scratching and tickles it gives his skin. Who can blame him for enjoying a body massage !!!

Benny loves the attention and the cuddles. His favourite place to get brushed is in front of the heater on a cold night on a pink woollen blanket. Ahhh if only I were the spoilt cat in this household !!!
