Is Lucy pregnant??

young102399 Jun 23, 2003 04:20 PM

Hi,
My cat, Lucy, had a litter of kittens last month. Unfortunately, the neighborhood tom cats got to her babies. How soon can she get pregnant after having kittens? Her belly seems firm lately, but I didn't know she could get pregnant so soon?
Thanks

Yes, she could be pregnant again. A female can come in heat if she's not nursing (and sometimes when she is still nursing a bit). Now is the time to take Lucy in to be spayed. One reason tomcats often go after kittens is that they know instinctively that the female will come back in heat if she loses her kittens. She will be a happier and healthier cat if she is spayed and kept indoors away from tomcats who may have diseases they can spread to her.
