I saw the other thread, but it seemed dead so I thought I'd start a new one. We've chosen a vet who works solely with cats. The recommend getting the vaccines once at 16 weeks, once at 20 weeks and then once every year after. She said that they wouldn't normally recommend them for an indoor cat, but they do in our case, because there are about 100 badly cared for cats in our neighborhood, many of whom are strays. We even have strays living in the halls of our building, so if she escaped one day..... Does this seem reasonable to you all? She said that if we let more than exactly a year go by, we would have to start the series over again.-- Jennifer

This is a decision that you and your vet have to make. The cat needs the first year of shots at the recommended intervals to build up immunity. However, research is proving that every 2-3 years is sufficient to keep the immunity levels up to par. If there is a good chance your cat will be exposed to these other cats, I would probably go with a 2 year vaccination schedule after the initial set. That's only what I would do. You have to decide for yourself how much risk there is and how often you want to vaccinate.

I wonder why vets can't all get on the same page. I know some say don't do it, some say once a year, others say 2 4 weeks apart then yearly and some say every 2-3 years. We're just gonna go with wht our vet recommends, but geez isn't there any conclusive research?- Jennifer
