Will my shelter cat start grooming himself better?

comewhatmay Aug 26, 2003 11:25 PM

He isn't particularly dirty, but he doesn't smell very fresh. So far, I haven't seen him spend too much time grooming himself, other than his genitals.

Should he start grooming himself more sometime soon? I really don't think a bath is practical (He was feral.). Should I just wait, or should I try those bathing wipes?

Thanks in advance!

I would try those kitty wipes on him. He may get the idea that being clean is a good thing.

If he continues not to smell fresh, but appears to be clean, you might want to get him to the vet. Sometimes illness can make a cat smell funny.

Aww....thanks for adopting a shelter kitty! He's probably not smelling too good from being in that environment, so I would give him a few swipes with a bathing wipe. Once he settles into his new home, he will probably start grooming more. But if he doesn't and he still has an odor, have a vet check him out. There are some illnesses that will cause a cat to give off certain odors. I'm sure it's just that shelter smell and the fact he is still getting used to his new surroundings.
