how can I help tone my cat's belly?

AbsoluteRae Sep 15, 2003 08:16 PM

Beatrice (2 YO DSH)was overweight at 15 lbs when I put her on a weight control food 2 months ago. She's at 12.5 lbs now, but I'm worried that the weight loss with cause flab as I have seen this happen in other cats. I tried giving her a little pouch of cat nip to play with but she was totally uninterested (Theta, my other cat, when totally crazy with it though). So, any suggestions about how to aide Beatrice in her weight loss and give her abs of steel? BTW, she is on Iams weight control.

Unfortunately there is no way you are ever going to pursuade the cat to do "crunches". Just stick with the program and try to get her weight down with a combination of diet and exercise. If you read her moods right, you might see when she is the most playful and build your playtimes around that.

She will always have a bit of a paunch probably because the skin in that area will probably not contract as she loses weight. But if her overall weight is good, then this shouldn't be a problem.
