Should I get Mat shaved?

nab219 Oct 08, 2003 06:43 PM

I posted before about my 10 mos old adopted cat. The cat has massive mats, hence his name. A visit to the groomer was not successful since he became "violent" with 3 groomers. My vet offered the name of another vet who would give Mat anesthia and shave the mats. I was given an appt for 10-14, which was a month from his visit. Since then I have tackled the mats by cutting them off a tiny bit at a time. He is now mat free but does not have an award winning hair cut. My question is...do you think I should go ahead and have him shaved and start over?

If Mat is truly mat-free, I think you should probably cancel the appointment since it involves anesthesia. Regular brushing will be a must however! To be totally sure, give the vet a call and ask what he/she thinks about not going through with it. Mat's hair should even out someday on its own. And keep the name of the groomer for future reference!
