I just found this forum..skin cancer

janome Mar 05, 2004 09:01 PM

Hi cat lovers! I'm usually on the snake side of the forums and just found this one on cats! I didn't know they had forums on cats but I guess they have one on just about any kind of pet.
I have 4 cats: Smokey, 20: Shadow, 12: Daisy, 10: and Jazzy is 2.
Has anyone had any problems with skin cancer on cats? Daisy has a suspicious growth that is black and my vet thinks it could be a skin cancer. I'm going to get it removed but was wondering if it is a cancer with removing it be the end of it??

It would depend on the type of cancer and how deeply it has invaded the surrounding tissue. I would assume the vet would do some sort of biopsy to determine whether s/he'd gotten it all. If the cancer is totally removed it probably won't come back, although your cat may have a tendancy to develop more cancerous cells somewhere else.
