HELP! Cat is on diet and is now less active!

foryouonly Jun 11, 2004 04:12 PM

My cat is 2 years old and ever since I've been feeding her Maxximum Nutrition Purina brand, she is less active and does not eat much. It is said that it is supposed to treat less active cats and increase their activity. I've been feeding her this food for 3 weeks. I've seen a dramatic change in her since those 3 weeks. Before I was feeding her Purina One Growth and Development and she used to be active and hyper (I mean like going haywire hyper) I considered feeding her the Maxximum Nutrition only because she is overweight. So should I still consider feeding her the Maxximum Nutrition or go back to regular cat food? And also, what are your thoughts on feeding your cat Natural Cat Food or Grocery bought food? I had read an article about feeding your cats grocery bought food and it said that processed food doesn't give your cat the nutrients they need. I NEED HELP! I'M TORN BETWEEN THESE TWO QUESTIONS!!!

There are a couple routes you could go. There is the raw diet. I'm not sure how or what you feed with a raw diet. I don't use it. But I have heard it's the best way to go with your cat. But it needs to be used correctly.

The other options is switch to a premium food. Some of those are Wellness or Nutro. I like nutro but only because I have always used it. There are a couple of other premium foods that I can't remember the names of right now. But I would look into these.
All of these food you can buy at a local pet food store.

If there has been a noticible change in your cat's activity level, you should probably take the cat to the vet because the slow-down and diet change might be a cooincidence.

If there is no underlying medical problem, then consider feeding a minimum level a very high premium cat food with human grade meat and no corn meal.

If there are all natural ingrediants in the new food, then perhaps the additives in the old food were causing the active behavior of your cat.
