Help!!!!

foryouonly Jul 18, 2004 07:52 PM

My sister and I have just bought a 6 week old kitten from a farm and when we groomed her, I spotted something in her ears. Her ears were covered in brownish flaky substance. We had to use q-tips, wet them and practically swab them out of there. We knew she was farm raised and we weren't sure of it was either dirt or something else that was creeping into her ear. My sister suggested that it was dirt but I knew it wasn't because it would be a powdery substance. But instead it was flaky, brown, and she had some ear wax. I wasn't sure if that was part of the ear wax or not. Someone please help!

It sounds like earmites. Is it dark brown and waxy but looks like pepper flakes in it? If so, it's earmites and you'll have to go to the vet and get medication for it. Earmites can cause irritation and even bleeding in the ear canals.

Congradulations on your new kitty! What did you name him/her?

Destany has given you some excellent advice - this could be earmites and a vet needs to check the kitty over for sure!

Thanks :D I figured it was it but I wasn't sure. We're going to take her to the vet tomorrow. We named her Mikka. :D
