Quick growth?

mheatrule Oct 13, 2003 09:52 PM

I have a almost year old male ball that is feeding regularly on medium mice. Is there any way to get him to grow faster? What is the best technique?

Yes, one sure fire way for quick growth in your situation. Ditch the mice immediately and get your BP on rats. Good luck.

arent rats too big?

Rats, much like any other living thing on this planet, come in a variety of sizes, ranging from newborns (pinkies:6-15g) to jumbo rats (400-700g. And everything in between. Check out the many many resources on the web, you'll find MANY sites.

it is extra small from eating mice. Hatchling BP's can take pinky/fuzzy rats. I never give them mice. Rats will really bulk it up a lot faster than mice.

You can try using the stitching method! Have a small frozen/thawed rat ready, and using ordinary sewing thread and a largish needle, put a couple of stitches in the snout of the rat; feed the ball as normal and when he has seized the mouse, quickly stitch the rat to the rump of the mouse, tie the thread off and cut off the remainder. The mouse will not feel any pain as it will already be in shock from having been seized and constricted. usually, the snake will continue to swallow both prey items without problem. Try this method a few times and then start offering a frozen/thawed small rat that has been heated to about 105 degrees C. If he seizes and eats the rat, you are on your way!
