Kitten in heat.....for the 4th time!!!!!!!!!!!

ButtercupKitty Mar 05, 2005 07:15 AM

I have a female cat named Buttercup, she's approximately 9 months old now. about two weeks before the beginning of February, she started in heat. It was new to me but I quickly figured it out. February 2 I moved. About a week into my new place, she started again!! I was told by a co-worker who says she has cats that they will do this twice a year until they get fixed. A few days go by with all the moaning/rolling around/butt in air and all is quiet for a few days. Then she started again!!!! Lasted close to a week, this time she attracked all kinds of cats in the neighborhood hanging around on my porch. About maybe a week ago she quieted down, and just now, she's starting to roll around again and keeps meowing (I know she not hungry, I just fed her). One thing i will say is that i was standing in the open doorway talking to a neighbor and she darted out the door (she never passes the doorway), and I think perhaps she got a sniff of some of the males that had been around lately (still smelling their scent?). She came back in and meowed for like 10 minutes straight until I ended up just screaming!

Is it normal to be going into heat every other week? This is going to drive me insane!!! And yes I plan to get her fixed, I'm just on a very VERY limited budget to get it done

It is extremely normal for your unspayed female cat to go into heat every other
week. She won't stop until you spay her or she gets pregnant. Please call the
vet and make an appointment to get her spayed as soon as she goes out of heat.
The sooner you get your cat spayed the less likely it is that she will develop
mammary (breast) cancer. Also, the chance of reproductive cancers (uterine,
ovarian, mammary) and uterine infection is eliminated. This way you will have
many more happy years with Buttercup. And you won't have to worry about finding
home for all the kittens she could produce.
Lastly you won't have to listen to that howling every other week!

Oh yes, I've learned the hard way with my Samantha, that they can and will go into heat over and over again until they are either spayed or inpregnated.

There are many low cost programs that helps with the expense for those on a limited budget. You might want to check into one of those.

Spaying her now is much less expensive than the cost of raising 5 or 6 kittens in a couple of months. Plus the world already has too many cats and kittens that have no homes and so they are put to sleep at the shelters.
