Kitten With Spinal Injury

Laurentha Jul 14, 2005 09:06 PM

My son brought home an 8 week old kitten on Friday who has had the lumbar area of her spine broken. The injury was an accident (she was going thru a door just as it was slamming shut) when she was about 3 or 4 weeks old and she was not taken to a vet. It's been too long to be able to fix it but my vet thinks that if we work with her we will be able to get her walking on at least 3 legs (one is hyperextended). Right now she walks on the front 2, pushes with her back legs while sitting on her hip sliding along. She's also incontinent (which the vet does not thik will improve) and must wear a diaper to keep from making a big mess in the house. Prior to my son bringing her home she had been living outside for the past 2 or 3 weeks and being fed rather irratically. Amazingly, other then the injury she seems to be very healthy and is a typical kitten.

Thats good news of her possibly getting use back atleast in one leg. We will be praying and sending lots of Glows to her. I Know the feeling of having to use diapers with kittens. I hope you where able to find some premie diapers. it took me hitting every store to find some. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Toys R Us carries premies. Huggies brand are $7.99 for a package of 30 but they also have their own brand which costs less. She went thru 4 of them this morning before 11:00! The first one I never even got on her. LOL. I'm thinking that when she gets bigger of switching over to the cloth "pants" that you can put a panty liner in.

LOL that happened to me this AM with scooter went thru 3 b4 I got one on!! OMG What a chore. When you get them on it's well worth it. isn't it? Good luck with that. And let me know if the "pants" work cause I'm hoping to go to that with scooter but god only knows if thats possible.
